Listed below is the trip itinerary for the December trip to Tanzania! The safari dates will be from December 14 to December 23. This gives you enough time to enjoy Christmas with your loved ones in Tanzania, and enough time to be at the DI for the 100th year anniversary. This trip is operated by Tanzania Serengeti Adventure.

Day 1 (14th December 2019)

Flight – Dar es salaam Airport to Serengeti National Park / game drives.

  • Report at Daressalaam airport at 6am
  • Depart Dar Airport: 07h00am
  • Arrival Serengeti Seronera Airstrip: 11h00am
  • (Note: you will have brief stops in Zanzibar and Arusha ) Met on arrival at Serengeti Airstrip by your safari driver guide Continue on game drive in Serengeti National Park, until late evening.
  • Serengeti National Park Size: 14,763 sq km (5,700 sq miles).
  • Location: 335km (208 miles) from Arusha, stretching north to Kenya and bordering Lake Victoria to the west.

Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.

Day 2 (15th December 2019)

Full days game drive in Serengeti National Park

  • Full day or AM and PM game drive in Serengeti National Park (your safari driver guide will brief you every evening on the following days/timing program )
  • Accommodation: Serengeti Tented Camp
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed lunch and dinner
  • HOT AIR SERENGETI BALLOON SAFARI: Optional at extra cost - US$ 599,- per person

Program: After an early wakeup call 4.30am, meet at the common area, light tea/coffee served and the Serengeti Balloon Safari will drive you to Where their Balloon takes off, Do an early Serengeti Balloon ride over the Serengeti Plains and land in the bush for breakfast served with champagne and later continue of game drive in Serengeti with your safari driver )

Day 3 (16th December 2019)

Full days game drive in Serengeti National Park

  • Full day or AM and PM game drive in Serengeti National Park or if wildlife in Ndutu ( your safari driver guide will brief you every evening on the following days/timing program )
  • Accommodation: Serengeti Tented Camp / Ndutu Camp
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed lunch and dinner

Day 4 (17th December 2019)

Transfer to Ngorongoro / Crater Tour

  • After early breakfast, transfer drive to Ngorongoro, descend down the steep walls of the caldera for another Half-day safaris game viewing in the Ngorongoro National Park. The Park is a paradise of woodlands and lakes that provide for abundant wildlife. Gazelle, buffalo, elephants, wildebeest as well as big cats, particularly the black manned lion, leopards and hyena.
  • Ascend the crater and transfer to your lodge Accommodation: Tanzania Ric Lodge Meal Plan: breakfast, Packed lunch and dinner
  • Ngorongoro , world Heritage site: The Ngorongoro Conservation Area wildlife and land has been a UNES CO site since 1979. It is the only site in the world with a high concentration of wildlife living in harmony with human communities.
  • Main Crater: The world's sixth-largest unbroken caldera, The crater is the flagship tourism feature for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is a large, unbroken, un-flooded caldera, formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed some three million years ago. The Ngorongoro crater sinks to a depth of 610 metres, with a base area covering 260 square Kilometres. The height of the original volcano must have ranged between 4,500 to 5,800 metres high.

Day 5 (18th December 2019)

18th December, 2019 Transfer to Arusha Airport / Flight to Zanzibar

  • After breakfast, descend the great rift valley,stop at the African Gallery if you want to Purchase any gifts (items purchase not included) and continue transfer to Arusha Airport.
  • Flight departs Arusha Airport at 1300 hrs ( flight timing subject to changes )
  • Meet upon arrival in Zanzibar at 1430 hrs and transfer to Zanzibar Stone town
  • Accommodation: Dhow Palace Hotel or Similar
  • Meal Plan: breakfast ( not included: lunch and dinner – all restaurants are nearby close to your hotel and of your choice )

Day 6 (19th December 2019)

SAFARI BLUE – Full Day – A totally different experience, not to be missed!

  • The original and the best, ‘Safari Blue’ is a full-day excursion using locally made traditional sailing dhows of between 8 to 10 metres in length, carrying up to 22 passengers plus crew.
  • These passenger-carrying dhows are fitted with outboard engines, marine VHF radios, gas inflatable life jackets, sunshade, boarding ladder, waterproof bags and first aid kit with DAN oxygen unit.
  • The excursion starts at the fishing village of Fumba, 30 minutes drive from Stone Town. Fumba is situated in the southwest corner of the island and is an ideal starting point to explore Menai Bay, designated a Conservation Area.
  • The bay has a number of beautiful, uninhabited islands and sandbanks and is often frequented by humpback and bottlenose dolphins.
  • On arrival at Fumba you are given a briefing and a life jacket demo. You then board the dhows and set off to explore the bay and search for the dolphins. Dolphins have been spotted on at least 85% of these trips.
  • Later in the morning stop on a sandbank. Guides, who can safely lead the snorkelling session and show points of interest, accompany you. For beginners or those who are not confident swimmers, there are inflatable snorkelling vests and the guides can give tuition.
  • After snorkelling sample a fresh green coconut before sailing to another sandbank for lunch. During the morning a catering boat has gone on ahead to prepare lunch which is served on teak picnic tables set up beneath smart canvas sunshades.
  • Lunch is a traditional Zanzibari meal followed by fruit tasting, with a selection of different tropical fruit. Coffee and Amarula liqueur are served after lunch. Cold drinks are available throughout the day.
  • When the tide allows, visit a beautiful mangrove lagoon where it is possible to swim through the mangrove forest.
  • Return to Fumba by sail boat and arrive back at 6 pm, in time to see the colourful African sunset. There are no formal changing facilities at Fumba so please wear your swimming things under your clothes.
  • Bring waterproof shoes for boarding the dhows and bring towels, sunscreen and a spare T-shirt for snorkelling. Transfer back to Stone town.
  • Accommodation: Dhow Palace Hotel or Similar
  • Meal Plan: breakfast and traditional Zanzibari Lunch ( not included: Dinner – all restaurants are nearby close to your hotel and of your choice )

Day 7 (20th December 2019)

Zanzibar Stone town tour / PM transfer to Beach Hotel After breakfast

  • Begin with a visit to Zanzibar’s colourful market, alive with the buzz of locals bartering fresh vegetables and baskets of tropical fruit, amongst the heady smell of exotic fruit.
  • Continue to the site of a cathedral built in 1874. The cathedral signifies a potent time in Zanzibar’s history and stands on the sight of a past slave market with the high altar standing on the exact site of the whipping post. Slavery was abolished in 1873 by decree of the Sultan of Zanzibar.
  • From here visit the residence of the late Sultan of Zanzibar, ‘Tip Tip House’, the Old Fort, ‘Peoples Palace’ and the House of Wonders’, full of intrigue from days of long ago.
  • The bay has a number of beautiful, uninhabited islands and sandbanks and is often frequented by humpback and bottlenose dolphins.
  • The tour ends with a stroll down the narrow streets of the old Stone Town, the heart of Zanzibar’s chequered history.
  • 13h30: Transfer to Zanzibar East Coast Beach Hotel
  • Accommodation: The Loop Hotel or Similar
  • Meal Plan: breakfast and dinner (not included: lunch – you can decide whilst at the hotel )

Day 8 (21st December 2019)

Zanzibar - Relax on the Beach

  • Sea sport can be arranged in extra cost.
  • Accommodation: The Loop Hotel or Similar
  • Meal Plan: breakfast and dinner
  • Note: Lunch excluded in case you decide on day trips, lunch are usually included or you can pay directly (lunch is around $25/pp x 2 lunches, paid directly)

Day 9 (22nd December 2019)

Zanzibar - Relax on the Beach

  • Sea sport can be arranged in extra cost.
  • Accommodation: The Loop Hotel or Similar
  • Meal Plan: breakfast and dinner
  • Note: Lunch excluded in case you decide on day trips, lunch are usually included or you can pay directly (lunch is around $25/pp x 2 lunches, paid directly)

Day 10 (23rd December 2019)

Departure Transfer to Zanzibar Harbour

  • Breakfast, check-out time at 10h30am.
  • Depending on the ferry/fight departure time we will transfer you to Zanzibar habour/airport.
  • Your trip ends with your arrival at Dar es salaam Harbour or Dar Airport (Further activities or transfers can be organized on request)
  • Main destination: Dar es salaam Airport.
  • Accommodation: End of tour (no accommodation)
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast (Lunch & dinner not included)
